Hello
I'm a programmer, writer, father and husband based in the UK.
A Tale of Two Languages
By day I'm an ERP developer, customising and building solutions for a variety of different businesses across the UK using Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
By night I'm an aspiring Ruby developer with a soft spot for Ruby on Rails. My goal is to use Ruby and any of the related libraries and frameworks that use it, in a freelancing position as a consultant / programmer or as a full-time programmer using Ruby and other languages.
Writing Interests
I have a continuing interest in writing, and one of the ways that I have been exercising this interest is through the use of writing in blogs.
As well as writing for both my programming blog and personal blog, I also ran a successful mind mapping blog called MindMapSwitch.
My Comment Policy
While I do have comments enabled on my personal blog, I have removed comments from my programming blog. Intrigued by Luke Redpath's post on his own commenting policy, I thought it was quite an interesting idea to respond to a blog post with another blog post. Comments don't get the attention they deserve, and they are often the result of a few minutes of quick thinking.
So in order to encourage discussion of ideas relating to my blog I have decided to remove comments from my programming blog. I'm slowly considering the idea for my personal blog as well.
Affiliate Linking
From time to time I'll post reviews about products, but mostly this will be books. These reviews and other blog posts will contain affiliate links. So if you click on the link and purchase the product I am recommending, then I'll get a small percentage as a commission.
This doesn't generate the vast amounts of money that some people think it does, but it does help towards purchasing other books in related subjects that you might be interested in hearing about.
